| Summary: |
The documentary describes a very interesting ecological phenomenon occurring
inside the "Lame del Sesia" natural park, in the north-west of Italy.
Since a few years, a little colony of Sacred Ibis (Threskiornis aethiopica), a
bird that lives only in the sub-Saharian and Persian Gulf regions is
successfully nesting in a little wooden island of the Sesia river, together
with hundreds of pairs of cormorants and herons of various species, very
commons birds in this lands.
The ornithologists believe that the founders of this colony were animals
escaped from one of the private exotic breeding of the region, and they
perfectly adjusted themselves to live in a really new habitat.
The number of pairs is steady increasing and they are becoming, little by
little, a part of the natural landscape.
We hope that this extraordinary birds, revered by the ancient Egyptians as
Thoth's embodiment, the God who protected intellectuals and doctors, would
carry on to fly over the rice fields and the skies of Piemonte's plains.
